The internet is a great way to find flight and hotel packages for your vacation or business trip. One of the keys to finding the best deals to is to book your reservation early. The sooner you do it the better the offers seem to be. When booking your hotel and flight together you tend to get a better discount.
For me personally, being a detail oriented person, I like to plan my vacations well in advance. Given the short amount of time I get off from work every year (a couple of weeks), I want all the particulars ironed out with no last minute surprises. Of course you can find last minute flight and hotel packages but these tend to limit the destinations that are available.
After deciding where I want to go, I then start matching the cheapest hotel and flight bundles dates to the time I have available. Generally, I like to look and see if I can get a car in the same package in order to make the trip amenities all inclusive.
Rather than trying to put all these reservations together yourself, there are travel websites that can do for you effortlessly using their software systems. All you need to do is sit down at your computer and start entering the dates you want to leave and return for your plane flights, the type and quality of accommodations you are looking for in a hotel and what type of transportation you want to rent. Most of these travel websites even have an app for your smartphone. The days of calling a travel agent are long gone.
So let’s look at a few of the most popular travel websites that offer flight and hotel packages.
TripAdvisor: This is more of a review than a reservation site. Although it does book flight and hotels, its main strength is as a rating service with customer reviews.
Priceline: This site operates differently than the others. The “name your price feature” lets you set a pre-determined cost for your trip and then finds the company to provide the service after you have paid.
Hipmonk: Like Google Flights, you cannot book directly on the site. What is does is aggregate other search engines and t5hen links out to the reservation page. It features a “hot spot” function that informs you of eating, drinking and entertainment establishments near your destination.
Google Flights: Although you can’t book cheap hotels, flights or vacation packages directly on the site, it searches for the best deals on other websites. It also includes an easy to read graph for comparing discounts.
Expedia: At almost twenty years old, this site has had time on its side to work out any bugs. It offers many styles and types of packages including cruises. This is a good place to do a “soup to nuts” search if you haven’t already decided what sort of vacation you want to take.
Orbitz: Convenience is the keyword that best describes this service. If you just want to leave town and let the software do the heavy lifting this could be the website for you. They also have a great loyalty program in place that can save you even more money down the road.
Kayak: A relative newcomer, this site offers more than just cheap flights. One nice feature is their price drop alert. You type in how much you want to pay for a plane ticket or lodging and if the price drops they send you a text message or email.
Hotwire: This site works kind of like Priceline. You search for the best deals on travel packages, and after you pay you learn which hotel and airline you will be using.
These are just a few of the more well-known websites offering travel bookings, but they should be enough help you find the best deals on flight and hotel packages.
