Travel budget calculator
Add up your daily costs and flights to see the total trip cost, plus the cost per person and per day.
Enter every amount in the same currency. The calculator does not convert; use the currency converter first if needed.
Frequently asked questions
How is the trip total worked out?
Daily costs (stay, food, transport, activities) are added up and multiplied by the number of days. Flights are added once. Everything is divided by travellers for the per-person figure.
Where do the typical daily budgets come from?
They come from the country guides on this site and are rough guides in US dollars per person per day. Real costs vary by city, season and travel style.
Should I enter costs per person or per group?
Daily costs are per group in this calculator, for example one hotel room for two people. The flights field is the total for everyone.
How to build a realistic trip budget
Enter the number of days and travellers, then fill in a daily figure for your stay, food, local transport and activities, and any one-off costs such as flights or insurance. The calculator shows the total, the cost per person and the cost per day, so you can compare two trip ideas or see where the money goes. If you do not know a figure yet, start with the typical daily budget shown on the destination's country guide and adjust it to your style.
A few habits make the estimate hold up. Add a buffer of ten to fifteen percent for the things nobody plans for: a taxi in the rain, a museum you did not know about, a lost charger. Count travel days as full days, because airports are expensive. Keep accommodation and flights in the currency you will pay them in, then convert with the currency converter. Check the result against the destination's price level too: a figure that works in Bangkok will not stretch far in Oslo. The tool runs in your browser and saves nothing, so note the result before you leave the page.
